The Castle of Machiavelli dates back to the year 1000 and it once was the residence of the family Buondelmonti. In 1511, Niccolò Machiavelli bought the castle and used it as his hunting house. From 1727 on, the Rangoni Machiavelli family became the owners of this beautiful residence, consisting of the castle and surrounding rural houses. In 1985, the residence underwent a total and perfect restoration. The Castle is situated on the slope of a hilltop, overseeing the valley of the Pesa River, and offering a wide panorama on the surrounding hills with their wine yards and olive groves. The road winding up the hilltop until it reaches the little village of Montefirdolfi crosses with the streets leading to the famous Chianti towns Panzano, San Casciano and Greve. The landscape is unique, offering panoramic views on the Tuscan hills, rural hamlets, castles and farms where it is possible to taste the excellent wine of the region. The small village of Bargino, with a grocery store for the first necessities, is at 2-km distance from the Castle. San Casciano with supermarket, various stores, and banks is at 5 km, Florence at 25 km, and Siena at 40 km. The halls at the ground floor of the Castle, along with the courtyard and parts of the large garden can be rented for celebrating weddings and other events. In the rural houses around the Castle, 11 apartments are at the disposal of the guests. Restored with taste and respect for the Tuscan tradition (terracotta floor, wooden beams) and furnished with furniture belonging to the Rangoni Machiavelli family, each of these apartments has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. All apartments are equipped with washing machine and SAT TV. Some of them have a washing machine at disposal. The swimming pool (18 x 7 m), situated in the spacious garden and offering a panoramic view, is open from May to September. In a building at the entrance of the property, breakfast is offered on request.
